To the Rescue

We had a bit of a plumbing issue yesterday morning, but my parents were able to come up and help out--Dad brought tools and my mom brought cookies. Mike didn't have to take a day off of work, and the grandparents got to spend some time with Audrey when she was actually awake. A win-win!

Beating the Heat

Audrey's been enjoying some diapers-only time the last couple of days due to the heat. She seems to like the feeling of air across her bare skin.

Sophie's been beating the heat another way. Sadie doesn't seem to mind.

We have been having a great weekend with the family and Audrey. Grandma and Grandpa Wetzel came up and Audrey had a great day with them. A little something extra for all you blog stalkers out there!!!!

Ups and Downs

Yesterday was a pretty trying day for us. Audrey went the whole day without a nap, insisted on being held all day, cried nonstop all evening and did not go down for the night until 2 a.m. However, even in the worst of days, God blesses us by reminding us what a gift Audrey is. During a short half hour window yesterday Audrey seemed to discover those objects we keep dangling in front of her. She actually began reaching for a few toys and even tested a few out by mouthing them. Before she has just flailed her arms about, so it was rewarding to see her make a connection and move her arms with a purpose. I thank God that I can keep this as a memory for what yesterday was, rather than merely an exhausting day with a crying baby.

This is Audrey's typical sleeping position--arms up, legs like a frog. She will learn soon enough that in this family, putting arms up like that is only an invitation to be tickled.

Going for a Walk

Audrey and I took a walk this morning before it got too hot and muggy. It was our second walk, and she really seems to like the movement of the stroller. I hope it starts getting less humid and muggy so we can take some longer walks soon.

Tummy Time

We've been doing some tummy time and Audrey seems to be pretty motivated to lift her head up and strengthen those neck muscles. And yes, she once again has the hiccups in this video.

Today was Mike's first day back to work after Audrey was born. While we miss him here at home, I know it was tougher for him to leave this morning. Maybe we'll give him a visit at work sometime in the near future.

So I fed Audrey for the first time today and it was nothing short of awesome(and messy). She loves her swing too!!! She is getting hot in this summer weather so from now on out all pictures of her will either be in a diaper or buck naked(JK)

Sadie's love hath not wained.

So I made my first big fingered error on the page by posting something with no body to it. First of many i guess. Audrey continues to be a joy for Shannon and I as we continue to figure out who she is. I have to go back to work Monday after 12 days off so I imagine this will be the fastest weekend in recent memory.

Becoming More Alert

Audrey is becoming more alert and active every day. It's so neat to watch this completely brand new person learning about the world around her. It has given Mike and I the great experience of learning how to be good parents--a lesson I'm sure we will still be working on 18 years from now.

Our Due Date

It's funny to think that today was our actual due date. We are so glad to have had Audrey with us for 11 days now. We had a follow-up weigh-in with our pediatrician today to make sure she is gaining enough. She gained 11 oz. in 7 days, more than satisifying the doctor (and making her mom very relieved).

It has been a busy weekend for baby Audrey. On Saturday she got to meet her Uncle Shawn and Aunt Jessica, as well as her cousins ben and matt. Sunday we were visited by Audreys great Aunt Lois and Her Great Grandma Bouman as well. I was oveerwhelmed at how special it was to see a Great grandmother holding her Great Grandaughter.

Back by popular demand!!! Audrey has been a great baby so far and has made us laugh almost non-stop. Sadie has taken a REAL interest in Audrey's well being, and has started watching her to make sure she is OK. She is really good with her and seems to be faling in love with her as well. Below is some more hiccupping from Audrey.

Everything Audrey does is awesome to us so please bear with us as the "Audrey with the hiccups" and "Audrey making her "I just made a doody face" posts come through. We both feel very blessed to have such a woderful little girl!!!

Catching Up On Sleep

Mike and I aren't the only ones in the family dealing with new sleep patterns. Sophie's not really supposed to be on the couch like that, but she's been doing so well with so much change going on, I cut her some slack.

1st dr. appt with the pediatrician went well yesterday, and Mike enjoyed the gushing over our baby in the waiting room while I was scheduling future appts.

So while Shannon was sleeping this morning I took the liberty of snapping some shots with 2 of my 3 favorite girls. This was all going swimmingly until Shannon woke up and put an immediate halt to the festivities. So unfortunately I wasn't able to get the outside action shots of Audrey riding Sadie that I was hoping for..........another day I guess.

Introducing Audrey Louise

Our little girl came a little earlier than expected, and we are so glad to have her here! Audrey Louise Wetzel was born June 4, 2009 at 6:48 a.m. weighing 7 lbs 7 oz and measuring 20 inches. It was a long night for all of us, including the grandparents who drove up 10 o'clock the night before only to wait all night to meet Audrey. One thing I will always remember about the first hour of Audrey's life is the sight of all four grandparents coming into the delivery room snapping pictures with their camera phones because they all forgot their actual cameras.

Mike and I are adjusting to no sleep that is completely worth it. We were lucky to have my mom stay with us the first couple of nights to help us through it.
